SYMPTOMS, CAUSES AND TREATMENT OF DRY EYE

General Category   Administrator 0 Comments

Dry eyes is a common eye condition in which the eyes do not produce tears or do not have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision. Dry eyes, when chronic, can cause blurred vision and increased risk of infection.

Dry eyes is classified into two categories:

1.    Evaporative dry eyes

2.    Aqueous tear-deficient dry eyes

1.    Evaporative dry eyes

The prevalent cause of evaporative dry eyes is Meibomian gland dysfunction. This condition worsens with exposure to irritants including low humidity and excessive use of computer and digital devices.

2.  Aqueous tear-deficient dry eyes

Menopausal factor in females and Sjogren’s syndrome causes aqueous tear deficiency. Diabetes and some medications are the causes of tear deficient dry eyes.
